Before you start wrestling with the steering wheel, here are a few common culprits and how to fix them ![]()
Steering Wheel Lock
If your wheel feels stiff, it’s probably locked.
Try gently turning the wheel left and right while turning the key.
Gear Selector Not in Park (Auto)
Automatic vehicles won’t start unless they’re in P (Park) or N (Neutral).
Double-check your gear lever before turning the key.
Worn or Damaged Key
Keys wear out over time (especially if you’ve got a heavy keyring!
).
Try your spare key – if it works, it’s time for a replacement.
Dirty or Faulty Ignition Cylinder
Dust and grime can jam the mechanism.
A little spray of electrical contact cleaner might help – but if it’s still stubborn, it’s time to call in the pros.
Battery or Electrical Issue
If your dashboard lights are dim or dead, your battery could be the issue.
Jump-start it, or pop in for a quick battery check.
