You’re probably already daydreaming about that feast at Grandma’s… the roasted everything, the dessert table, and the classic “Have some more, my child” that definitely isn’t optional.
But remember – you still have to get there ![]()

We know this time of year squeezes both your wallet and your schedule. But don’t stress, there’s no gatekeeping here…
Here are a few quick and important checks you can easily do at home:
![]()
Tyre pressure & tread
Look for the pressure sticker on your driver-side door or check your owner’s manual.
Use a petrol station pump or a home inflator to match the recommended pressure.
For tread: stick a R5 coin in the groove – if you can see the “R”, your tyres are too worn.
Don’t forget the spare!

Oil level
Park on a level surface and switch the engine off.
Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, put it back, then pull it out again.
The oil should sit between the MIN and MAX marks.
If it’s low, top up slowly with the correct oil grade (your manual will tell you which one).

Coolant
Only check when the engine is cold – seriously. ![]()
The coolant reservoir has MIN/MAX lines; the liquid should sit between them.
If it’s low, top up with the right coolant mix (not just water).
Low coolant = high risk of overheating in holiday traffic.

Lights
Turn them on and walk around the car.
Check headlights, brights, indicators, brake lights, reverse lights and hazards.
Ask someone to stand behind the car while you press the brake so you know they’re working.

Wipers & washer fluid
Lift the wipers and check the rubber for cracks or peeling – if they’re streaking, replace them.
Open the washer fluid bottle under the bonnet (usually with a windscreen icon).
Fill it up with water or a proper washer mix.
A few minutes now = a smooth, stress-free drive later ![]()
